Shmyhal discusses with Guterres intensification of humanitarian response of UN organizations in Ukraine’s liberated territories

KYIV. Sept 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska discussed with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres the need to make greater use of the capabilities of UN organizations in Ukraine for humanitarian response in the liberated territories.

"To date, more than 300 settlements with a population of 150,000 people have been deoccupied in the Kharkiv region. The assistance of the UN in these territories is extremely necessary. It is urgent to provide the affected population with financial, psychological, social, and medical assistance, assistance in the restoration and repair of civil infrastructure, as well as humanitarian demining," the government’s press service said with reference to Shmyhal.

The parties also discussed the continuation and expansion of the "grain initiative" through the Black Sea ports in order to maintain food security in the world.

In addition, the Prime Minister of Ukraine emphasized the need to engage the capabilities of the UN for the demilitarization of the Zaporizhia NPP, in particular, the organization of a corresponding monitoring mission.

First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, for her part, emphasized that the voice of the UN is heard in all countries, even in the aggressor country. Therefore, Ukraine hopes that the UN will use it to protect Ukrainian children.
