KYIV. Sept 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Education of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet named strategic goals of the state policy in the field of preschool education, including ensuring accessibility (approaching the child’s place of residence), overcoming the queue to preschool institutions, expanding the network of institutions, including private ones, ensuring unimpeded access to them, the creation of a modern developing inclusive educational space, according to the press service of the department.
As the Minister reported during the Forum of the All-Ukrainian Preschool Week "Preschool Education of Ukraine 30", according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, at the beginning of 2021 there were 15,335 educational institutions of different types and forms of ownership in Ukraine. "This is 572 more institutions than in the previous year. More than 1 million children are trained in educational institutions," he said.
According to him, in 2020-2021 about 20,000 additional places for preschool children were created, 88 preschool institutions were built and reconstructed.
"This year, 12 new buildings have already received more than 1,000 preschoolers (four institutions in Zhytomyr region, two institutions in Kyiv region and Kyiv, one institution in Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Ternopil, Kherson regions each). The queue for the placement of children in preschool education institutions compared to 2020 has decreased by almost 3,000 places," Shkarlet said.
He drew attention to the fact that the main tasks for the development of the network of preschool education institutions as one of strategic directions of the government’s policy were reflected in the new State Strategy for Regional Development for 2021-2027 approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
"During the difficult transition period of administrative-territorial reform and decentralization of power, the priority of our joint activities is to continue working to preserve and expand the network of preschool institutions in accordance with the needs of community residents, support preschool workers and to create conditions for realization of the legally established right of children to accessible and high-quality preschool education" the minister said.
