Seventeenth WFP-chartered vessel with grain leaves Ukraine for Ethiopia

KYIV. March 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The 17th dry cargo ship, chartered by the UN World Food Program (WFP), left the Ukrainian port of Odesa on Wednesday, it is heading to Ethiopia, the Ministry of Restoration reported on Facebook.

“The Deniz M bulk carrier will deliver 30,000 tonnes of humanitarian wheat to Ethiopia. Under the auspices of WFP, more than half a million tonnes of Ukrainian wheat has already been delivered to needy countries in Africa and Asia,” the ministry said.

In total, three ships with 112,400 tonnes of agricultural products for Africa and Asia left the ports of Odesa on Wednesday. As specified by the Ministry of Restoration, the bulk carrier BC Callisto with 30,500 tonnes of wheat is sent to Algeria, and the Ioannis Theo with 52,000 tonnes of wheat to Vietnam.

Four ships are also moving along the “grain corridor” to load 122,000 tonnes of agricultural products, the report says.

According to the ministry, as part of the “grain initiative” from August 1, 2022 some 833 ships left the ports of Odesa, which exported 25.3 million tonnes of Ukrainian food to the countries of Asia, Europe and Africa.
