Senate Republican leader calls on Biden to supply Ukraine with weapons without restrictions
WASHINGTON. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The United States should not limit itself to defensive weapons systems in military supplies to Ukraine, but send it any weapons that Kyiv needs, U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has said.
"Back during the Cold War, one of the things that we did both parties successfully was to try to arm those who were sympathetic with us," Bloomberg quoted him as saying the day before.
"And even though Ukraine is not part of NATO, all of our NATO allies are completely freaked out with the Russian troops on the border of Ukraine [because of Russia’s actions]," he said.
According to him, Washington needs to supply Ukraine with " whatever weapons they think they need," not to limit itself to the supply of mostly defensive weaponry, as it was in the past.
Earlier, Foreign Policy said that Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov in November appealed to Chief of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin with a request in case of a possible "Russian invasion" to expand the supply of weapons to Kyiv. The list also included the weapons systems that were planned to be delivered to Afghanistan, the publication said.
