Self-proclaimed mayor of occupied Makiyivka suspected of separatism – Donetsk regional prosecutor's office
KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A 43-year-old man who illegally occupied the post of mayor of the non-government-controlled town of Makiyivka, Donetsk region, has been notified in absentia of suspicion of encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.
The lawbreaker’s actions are qualified under Part 2 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the information policy department of Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office said on Thursday.
"Since January 2015, the lawbreaker has been deliberately and actively cooperating with the occupation authorities of the Russian Federation, namely, until May 2019 he held the post of the so-called head of the administration of Horniatsky district of Makiyivka, and since May 2019 he became the pseudo-head of the town administration," the message says.
The prosecutor’s office says that the suspect ensures the implementation in the town of Makiyivka of the functions of local authorities usurped by the invaders, in particular, participates in mobilization work involving the population in illegal armed formations, forms the so-called local budget and "promotes ideas aimed at creating a positive image of the pseudo-republic."
