Second half of heating season to be passed by power engineers – CEO of DTEK Energy

KYIV. Jan 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – By mid-January, power engineers have already passed the first half of the heating season in Ukraine and will be able to complete the entire season, Ildar Saleev, Director General of DTEK Energy, believes.

"Half of the heating season has passed, we will courageously go through the whole. Of course, there is no need to have illusions here, it will not be easy. At least three months are ahead, and much remains to be done and endured in order to pass these days. But we can do it," said Saleev, whose words are given in a press release from DTEK on Tuesday.

As he noted, during the first half of the heating season, or over the past 90 days, in addition to restoring equipment after shelling, the energy holding managed to repair four power units of TPPs, put eight new longwalls into operation, and also supported not only its own, but also state-owned TPPs with fuel through shipment of 120,000 tonnes of coal to them at the end of 2022.

In addition, under the conditions of relocation, the company’s machine builders continue to supply coal mining enterprises with the necessary mining equipment.

By the end of the heating season, DTEK Energy’s repairmen are planning to repair six more TPP power units.

In total, last year the company managed to repair 26 thermal power units, investing more than UAH 2 billion in this, and commission 28 new longwalls.

"This allows DTEK’s mines to operate at maximum during the war and meet the needs of Ukrainian thermal power plants in coal," Saleev stressed.

As he recalled, in the first half of the heating season, 12 waves of massive enemy missile attacks were inflicted on the energy system of Ukraine and more than 1,000 missiles and shells were fired.

At the same time, DTEK Energy itself had to endure 26 terrorist attacks on TPPs.

"Three power engineers were killed, 26 were injured, workers of contracting organizations and rescuers were injured. These are the realities in which Ukrainian power engineers have been working in recent months," Saleev stated.

The CEO emphasized that the damage to facilities is serious, but after each attack, the Ukrainian energy system tries to recover as soon as possible.
