SBU says another 13 planes illegally performing flights to Crimea arrested

KYIV. Dec 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The arrest on 13 passenger aircraft belonging to the Russian air carrier JSC Airline Smartavia was imposed on the basis of the materials of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

These planes violated the procedure for entering and leaving the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine – the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Thus, they acted contrary to the rules of foreign flights and illegally transported persons across the state border of Ukraine, the website of the special services said on Monday.

The arrest was imposed within the framework of criminal proceedings opened under Part 1 of Article 111 (high treason); Parts 2,3 of Article 322 (illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine); Part 2 of Article 332-1 (violation of the procedure for entering and leaving the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine); Article 334 (the moment of acquiring ownership under a contract) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pretrial investigation established that currently 37 Russian airlines carry out regular air travel to the annexed peninsula in violation of Ukrainian legislation. The imposition of an appropriate arrest and further investigative actions will allow limiting the flights of the aircraft of these air carriers, including to European countries, the report says.

The SBU also reported that according to their materials, arrests were already imposed on 249 Russian aircraft carrying out regular passenger air transportation to the temporarily occupied peninsula in violation of international flight rules and Ukrainian legislation.
