SBU prevents leakage of secret technologies for production of aircraft engines for fighter jets abroad

KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As a result of a special operation carried out in Zaporizhia, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) blocked an attempt to illegally transfer the latest military technologies subject to state export control to one of the East Asian countries.

"For a monetary reward, the plotters tried to send foreigners secret documentation on the production of aircraft engines for fighters and combat helicopters," the SBU said on its website.

According to SBU counterintelligence, the scheme was organized by a former official of one of the powerful defense enterprises in the region. He involved three current employees in illegal activities, who sneakily copied secret information from work computers and samples of technical documentation.

"The organizer of the transaction planned to transfer the received information to foreign representatives through closed electronic communication channels for money. According to the preliminary conclusions of specialists from the defense industry of Ukraine, if they received the appropriate technologies, foreigners could establish their own production of modernized aircraft engines," the SBU said.

During searches in the offices and at the place of residence of the plotters, electronic media of information on technical documentation for military purposes, means of communication used to communicate with a foreign customer, $30,000, which they received as a deposit for illegal exports, were found.

The issue of notifying the plotters of suspicion under Article 333 (violation of the procedure for international transfers of goods subject to state export control) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved.
