SBU prevents illegal privatization of hydraulic structures in Kyiv, region

KYIV. Nov 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) prevented a large-scale scheme for the illegal seizure of hydraulic structures and land plots of state and communal ownership in Kyiv and Kyiv region, SBU said on its website.

"Taking advantage of the gaps in the legislation, the lawbreakers illegally tried to privatize ‘nobody’s’ hydraulic structures and 12 land plots in the capital and the surrounding area. Thus, they planned to withdraw property totaling more than UAH 4.2 billion from state and municipal property," the message says.

According to the SBU, in 2018, a citizen of Ukraine made an official request for the ownership of a number of hydraulic structures and 12 land plots. Having received a formal answer that the property is not owned by any legal or natural person, he took them for "safekeeping." Subsequently, he began the privatization procedure for these objects.

On this fact, law enforcement officers initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 364 (abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, an investigation is underway.

Currently, the property and property rights of 12 land plots and hydraulic structures in Obolonsky, Podilsky, Desniansky districts of Kyiv and Obukhovsky and Vyshgorodsky districts of Kyiv region have been seized.
