SBU detains Russian agent, who transmitted data on offensive operations of Ukrainian troops to the enemy
KYIV. Feb 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) exposed a Russian agent – an official of the military unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who informed the enemy about the plans of military operations of the Defense Forces in a strategically important sector of the front, the SBU reports.
"According to the investigation, the aggressor’s henchman turned out to be an official of one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who was recruited by the Russian special service after the start of a full-scale invasion. On the instructions of the occupiers, he secretly collected information about the movement of Ukrainian troops and their replenishment with equipment and ammunition," the SBU said on the Telegram channel on Monday.
In addition, as noted in the message, the lawbreaker "leaked" analytical information on the situation at the front to his Russian curators.
As a result of the special operation, the SBU officers detained the agent in an attempt to transfer data to the occupiers – information about the operational situation in one of the areas of hostilities.
During the searches at the places of the detainee’s location, communication means and computer equipment were found, which he used to communicate with the occupiers.
Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The detainee fully admitted his guilt.
The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention without the right to bail.
The Ukrainian Security Service emphasizes that thanks to the prompt response of the SBU, the command of the Ukrainian troops managed to adjust their management decisions in a timely manner for the successful execution of combat missions.
Measures to expose the traitor were carried out by employees of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service together with the units of the Security Service of Volyn region under the procedural leadership of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the military and defense sphere of the Western region.
