SBU detains enemy agent who brought Russian equipment close to Kyiv

KYIV. Aug 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained an agent of the Russian Federation from Sumy region, who in the first days of the temporary occupation escorted more than 120 units of enemy equipment to the outskirts of Kyiv, the SBU reports.

"The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine neutralized an enemy agent who, in the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, ‘conducted’ 128 units of equipment of the occupiers from Sumy to Kyiv region," the SBU said in a statement on the Telegram channel of the SBU on Thursday.

According to the SBU, the traitor turned out to be a resident of Sumy region, recruited by the special services of Russia.

"From the first days of the temporary occupation of the region, he began to actively cooperate with the enemy, offering to become a guide and show safe ways to Kyiv. And after the liberation of Sumy region, the agent continued to cooperate with the FSB of the Russian Federation and fulfill the tasks of his curators. He collected data on the locations, number and armament of the Defense Forces in the region," the report says.

The SBU clarifies that this person transmitted the coordinates of military facilities to the FSB with reference to the terrain, and used closed electronic communication channels for communication.

"The detainee was informed of suspicion and a preventive measure was chosen in the form of detention," the SBU informs.
