SBI looks for those who were illegally detained in Izolyatsia prison

KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As part of the investigation of the criminal actions of the head of the illegal prison "Izolyatsia" (in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region), the SBI is looking for witnesses and victims and asks to provide information to the special service.

"The SBI is investigating criminal proceedings against one of the former leaders of the so-called ‘DPR’, who headed the illegal prison Izolyatsia. Under his leadership, terrorists detained and tortured citizens, including the Ukrainian military," the SBI said in a statement posted on the agency’s website on Monday.

According to the SBI, it was established that the attacker was in charge of the militants’ prison, which was set up in 2014 on the territory of the former isolation plant in the temporarily occupied Donetsk.

"The terrorists brought illegally detained Ukrainians there. According to the attacker’s instructions, people were subjected to violence and psychological pressure. In addition, according to the pretrial investigation, he personally participated in the torture of the victims," the message says.

The SBI calls on witnesses and victims of illegal actions in Izolyatsia prison to report the information they have.

"At present, security investigators are identifying all victims of the unlawful activities of the attacker. Therefore, the SBI appeals to people who were illegally detained in Izolyatsia prison, victims of the criminal actions of its head, or witnessed these facts, inform the Main Investigation Department of the SBI on phones: (044) 255 50 69, (093) 458 06 77 (using messengers WhatsApp, Signal, Viber, Telegram)," the SBI informs.

In November 2021, counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv a former fighter of the terrorist organization "DPR", the head of the illegal prison in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region "Izolyatsia".

"According to the SBI, this man organized and took a direct part in the killings and torture of illegal prisoners of Ukrainian citizens. In relation to the former militant, legal procedural actions are being carried out," the department said.

The attacker was detained within the framework of a previously open criminal proceeding under 4 articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Article 149 (human trafficking); Article 258-3 (creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization); Article 260 (creation of paramilitary or armed formations not provided for by law); Article 438 (violation of the laws and customs of war).

The court chose him a preventive measure in the form of detention.
