SBI explains it did not open 'case' against Butusov, urges not to involve department in political accusations
KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has explained that it has not opened a criminal case against journalist Yuriy Butusov and urges not to involve the department in political accusations, the press service of the SBI said.
"Criminal proceedings were initiated not against journalist Yuriy Butusov, but on the fact indicated in his publication. There is no ‘case’ against Yuriy Butusov in the proceedings of the SBI and we ask you not to involve the SBI in political accusations," the department said.
As noted, the subject of the investigation is to establish the circumstances of who and under what conditions allowed a civilian to use heavy weapons.
"In the Criminal Code, there is no such thing as a case at all. There is criminal proceedings initiated on this or that fact, and as long as no suspicions are raised, it cannot be against anyone at all," the department said.
The press service said that the SBI deals exclusively with the crimes of officials, and the possible signs of such a crime became the subject of the investigation.
