SBI counterintelligence detains so-called 'DPR' militant from Somali unit

KYIV. Dec 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During a special operation in Donetsk region, counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine established the location and detained a militant of the "Somali" unit of the so-called "DPR".

"A local resident, who joined illegal armed groups in December 2018, was detained. According to the investigation, the attacker was part of the assault unit of the so-called ‘DPR’ illegal armed groups, which put up armed resistance to the Ukrainian military, involved in the operation of the Joint Forces in the area of Shyroka Balka, Pikuzy (formerly Kominternove), Dolomitne villages of Donetsk region. Subsequently, the attacker left the ranks of the militants and secretly returned to the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, where he tried to escape justice," the SBI press service reports.

During searches at the place of stay of the detainee, law enforcement officers found a "DPR military ID" and means of communication with evidence of illegal activities.

In addition, the suspect testified against servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, who are advisers and lead illegal armed groups.

SBI investigators informed the detainee of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose him a preventive measure in the form of detention.

The pretrial investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the illegal activity.
