Saakashvili to return to Rustavi prison after recovery – Georgian justice minister
TBILISI. Dec 6 (Interfax) – Georgia’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili will be moved from a military hospital in the town of Gori to the prison in Rustavi after his recovery, Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze said.
"Saakashvili will be transferred to the Rustavi prison but not before a relevant medical conclusion. I cannot say when this will happen, the medical personnel will inform," Bregadze said on Mtavari Arkhi television channel on Friday.
Saakashvili was jailed right after his arrest on October 1. The ex-president went on hunger strike. His health deteriorated and on November 8 he was admitted to a prison hospital in Gldani, just outside Tbilisi. On November 20 he was moved to the Gori hospital where he stopped the hunger strike and, according to the doctors, was now eating properly.
In Georgia Saakashvili is a subject of several criminal investigations. His considers his detention to be illegal and the charges falsified.
