Russian FSB agent, who planned assassination of Ukrainian military specialist, to be tried in Luhansk region – SBU

KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In Severodonetsk (Luhansk region), a fighter will come before the court who, on the instructions of the Russian Federal Security Service, planned to blow up a car with a Ukrainian military specialist.

"The target [of the detainee] was a leading specialist in the development of advanced models of military equipment and weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said on Tuesday.

It is noted that he wanted to use an improvised explosive device for the aforementioned terrorist attack.

According to reports, the death of a Ukrainian citizen was supposed to be a revenge of the Russian special services for his testimony in one of the SBU cases. They concerned the FSB agent network that was disclosed in February 2021, its task was to receive and transfer secret information in the defense sphere to representatives of the Russian special service.

Under the leadership of Luhansk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the SBU investigators have collected enough evidence to be charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine at once: Part 2 of Article 15 (attempted crime), Part 1 of Article 258 (terrorist attack), Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives). The criminal faces up to 10 years in prison.
