Russian forces use Kh-55 missiles with imitation of nuclear warheads to exhaust Ukrainian air defense system – Ihnat

KYIV. Jan 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The enemy uses Kh-55 missiles with the imitation of nuclear warheads against Ukraine in order to exhaust and distract the Ukrainian air defense system, Spokesman for the Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ihnat has said.

"Why do they use it? They do this first of all in order to distract our air defense system, and also it can be used as a false target. For example, the missiles are flying in a group – five units – two of them are Kh-55 and three Kh-101. They are flying on the route in order to exhaust and distract us, to force us waste our missiles on them. That is the banak reason," he said on the air of the national telethon on Friday.

The Air Force think that the enemy uses them because it saves the missiles, the number of which is reducing, like Kalibr and other missiles of this type.

Ihnat explained that Kh-55 is a missile with a nuclear warhead, and there is also its upgraded version – Kh-555.

"They use these missiles. We have seen evidence. Naturally, they remove and do not install the nuclear warheads. There is some kind of an imitator with the same wight to save the aerodynamic features of the missile. So, there is no warhead in it," he said.

Earlier, DEFENSE EXPRESS reported that on January 26 the Ukrainian air defense system shot down a Kh-55 missile with the imitation of a nuclear warhead near Kyiv.
