Russian attack on Ukrainian energy system on Oct 10 most drastic since start of war – Energy Minister

KYIV. Oct 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko said the attack on Ukraine’s energy system carried out by the Russian military on October 10 was the most drastic since the start of the war and covered Ukraine’s entire energy supply chain, from production to resource distribution, the official’s press office reported on Monday evening.

"On October 10, Russia carried out the largest attack on the energy system of Ukraine during the entire period of the war. The cynicism is that the entire supply chain was hit – these are both electricity distribution systems and generation," he said.

The minister stressed that the goal of the enemy is to complicate the possibility of reconnecting electricity supplies from other sources.

At the same time, he noted that power engineers continue repair work and resume electricity supply to consumers.

"There are areas where power supply has already been restored. There are areas where work continues. In some cities, work on connecting power supply will continue tomorrow," the minister described the situation.

At the same time, he urged Ukrainians to help the power industry in restoring the stability of the energy system by reducing electricity consumption, especially during peak hours.

He recalled that not only Ukraine is taking measures to reduce energy consumption.

"The whole of Europe is doing this now. They are also taking certain actions to save money and making the necessary decisions," the minister said.
