Russian aggression causes at least UAH 1.35 tn of damage to environment system of Ukraine – Accounting Chamber
KYIV. Nov 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine has already caused over UAH 1.35 trillion in damage to the country’s environment, led to a number of environmental problems in Europe and threatens to have even greater consequences for the whole world in the future, according to the Facebook page of the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine.
"As a result of the actions of the terrorist country, the environment of Ukraine has already suffered losses in the amount of over UAH 1.35 trillion. But, according to environmentalists, even this crazy amount does not reflect the real picture. The war threatens not only the environment of Ukraine, but has already led to a number of problems for the environment in Europe and threatens to have even greater consequences in the future," the chamber said on the social network.
According to the chamber, 3 million hectares of forests have already suffered from Russian aggression in Ukraine, which is almost one third of the country’s forest fund.
In addition, due to forest fires, burning of oil products and ignition of industrial facilities, hazardous substances enter the air every day. Since the beginning of the war, the amount of such emissions has exceeded 67 million tonnes, while in 2020 and 2021 they were about 2.2 million tonnes per year.
"Russia has turned our fertile black soil into the most explosive-contaminated land in the world. About one third of Ukraine’s territory will require demining, which will take at least 10 years. The occupiers have mined the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and are resorting to nuclear blackmail at the occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. The whole world must unite to help us stop and punish Russian terrorists, assess the damage and restore what has been lost!"
