Russia stripped of right to hold European speed skating, short track championships – Ministry of Sports
KYIV. Dec 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia has been deprived of the right to hold European speed skating and short track championships, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine reports.
"Such sanctions measures were taken by the International Skating Union [ISU] in connection with Russian military aggression against Ukraine. After the 2022 ISU Congress confirmed that the provisions of ISU Communiqué No. 2469 remain valid and the prolonged war in Ukraine, the ISU Council decided to immediately withdraw the preliminary agreements with the Russian Skating Union," the press service of the Ministry of Sports said with reference to the International Skating Union.
In addition, in confirmation of the irrevocableness of such a decision, the ISU announced the consideration of new applications from countries to host speed skating and short track championships.
