Russia sees 19,179 daily COVID-19 cases, 812 related deaths – coronavirus response HQ
MOSCOW. Sept 21 (Interfax) – Russia has recorded 19,179 new cases of COVID-19 and 812 related deaths over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus operative response headquarters reported on Tuesday.
"Russia has recorded 19,179 new confirmed coronavirus cases (COVID-19) in 85 regions over the past 24 hours, including 1,351 (7.0%) cases identified proactively without any clinical symptoms manifested," the headquarters said.
For the second straight day, Russia has seen a relative decline in the number of newly-recorded daily cases, after cases grew over the past week. Tuesday saw 565 fewer cases than Monday, when 19,744 cases were reported.
The city of Moscow has also seen a downward trend in this respect, with 1,926 new infections recorded on Tuesday compared to 2,469 on Monday. Daily cases in St. Petersburg went down to 1,060 on Tuesday from 1,137 on Monday.
The number of newly-recorded COVID-19 cases in the Moscow region has grown to 1,101 from 1,098 on Monday and 1,004 on Sunday.
As many as 812 patients with coronavirus have died nationwide over the past 24 hours, hitting a record for September and marking the second-largest number of daily deaths seen nationwide over the entire period of the pandemic. The highest number of coronavirus-related deaths, 820, was recorded on August 26.
The most daily coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Moscow (52), St. Petersburg (42), and the Sverdlovsk region (37).
The cumulative number of new coronavirus infection cases recorded in Russia since March 2, 2020, when the first COVID-19 case was detected in the country, has reached 7,313,851, with 199,808 related deaths and 6,526,111 recoveries. As many as 15,437 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals nationwide over the past 24 hours alone, including some 1,300 patients in Moscow.
Specialists have carried out more than 187.3 million tests for COVID-19 in Russia during the pandemic, including some 295,000 tests over the past 24 hours, according to Russian public health and consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor.
As many as 1,158,055 people remain under medical supervision nationwide.
