Russia registers 37,156 new cases of COVID-19, new all-time high of 1,254 deaths – HQ

MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax) – Russia has registered 37,156 new cases of COVID-19 and a new all-time high of 1,254 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 37,156 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,439 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (6.5%)," the headquarters said.

Moscow saw a 17% decline in infections from 4,062 on Thursday to 3,371 on Friday. There were 2,714 new cases in St. Petersburg, and 1,777 in the Moscow region.

Despite a relative decrease in coronavirus morbidity, the death toll from COVID-19 has been setting new records practically every day. A new all-time high of 1,254 was reported in the past 24 hours, as against 1,251 the day before. Most patients died in Moscow (95), St. Petersburg (77), and the Krasnodar Territory (69).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 9,257,068 cases of COVID-19, including 261,589 deaths and 7,956,254 recoveries, including 37,004 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 6,562 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 219.4 million COVID-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 598,000 over the past day. As many as 1,905,409 people remain under medical observation.
