Russia registers 25,781 new COVID-19 cases, 883 deaths in past 24 hours – HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) – Russia has registered 25,781 new cases of COVID-19, the largest number since January 2, and 883 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Monday.

"Over the past day, 25,781 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,034 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.9%)," the headquarters said.

The number of infections registered in Russia on Monday was close to the morbidity levels of early 2021. Back then, Russia was seeing a decline in infections following the spike of October to December 2020, as well as early July when the morbidity curve began growing amid the emergence of the Delta variant.

The most new cases were reported from Moscow (4,410 vs. 4,294 the day before), as well as St. Petersburg (2,198) and the Moscow region (1,733).

In the past 24 hours, 883 people have died from COVID-19. Russia hit a new all-time high of 890 deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday. The majority of deaths were reported from Moscow (66), St. Petersburg (60), and the Sverdlovsk region (43).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,612,317 cases of COVID-19, 210,801 deaths, and 6,740,491 recoveries, including 14,526 recoveries over the past day, among them 1,956 in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Monday that Russia has performed more than 193.7 million COVID-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 431,000 over the past day. As many as 1,338,900 people remain under medical observation.
