Russia registers 25,133 new cases of COVID-19, new all-time high of 929 deaths in past 24 hours – HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) – Russia has registered 25,133 new cases of COVID-19 and a new all-time high of 929 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 25,133 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,182 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.7%)," the headquarters said.

Russia has seen a new all-time high of 929 deaths, as against 895 the day before. The mortality rate started growing after September 20. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said on Tuesday that COVID-19 was killing unvaccinated people while "the share of vaccinated patients did not exceed 2%."

Most deaths were reported from Moscow (71), St. Petersburg (55), and Sverdlovsk region (46).

Over the past day, 19,841 patients were discharged from hospitals across the country upon their recovery.

Moscow reported 3,589 new cases of COVID-19 and 2,399 recoveries in the past 24 hours, the headquarters said.

Following Moscow are St. Petersburg (2,187 new cases) and Moscow region (1,410).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,662,560 cases of COVID-19, including 212,625 deaths and 6,778,900 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 194.5 million COVID-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 443,000 over the past day. As many as 1,356,769 people remain under medical observation.
