Russia records all-time high of COVID-19 cases, deaths, 33,308 and 1,002 – coronavirus response HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) – The daily growth of new COVID-19 cases in Russia has reached 33,308, it is an all-time high throughout the pandemic, and 1,002 people have died over the past day, which is an all-time high as well, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a bulletin on Saturday.

"Russia has recorded 33,208 new confirmed coronavirus cases in 85 regions over the past 24 hours, including 2,979 cases (9%) identified proactively, without any clinical symptoms," the bulletin said.

According to the headquarters, Russia has been recording a spike in cases in almost all of its regions: St. Petersburg recorded 3,088 new cases (2,632 on Friday), the Moscow region 2,403 (2,110 on October 15), the Samara region 838, the Nizhny Novgorod region 706, and the Voronezh region 671. Those are among the top five regions with the highest growth.

Moscow is on top of this list, but as of Saturday, the number of cases recorded daily is still high, 6,545, it is nevertheless 86 cases less than those recorded on Friday, 6,631.

As many as 1,002 deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded over the past day; it is also an all-time high throughout the pandemic.

Moscow saw the highest number of deaths, 72, St. Petersburg recorded 67 and the Krasnodar Territory 41.

The cumulative number of new coronavirus cases recorded in Russia has reached 7,958,384 in the past day. Over the entire period of the pandemic, 222,315 people have died in Russia. As many as 6,981,907 patients have been discharged from hospitals, including 21,883 over the past day. Out of them, 3,637 patients were discharged from hospitals in Moscow.

Russia’s consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Saturday that Russia has conducted over 200 million COVID-19 tests in total, including 692,000 over the past 24 hours. As many as 1,633,417 people remain under medical supervision in Russia.
