MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) – The daily growth of new COVID-19 cases in Russia has reached 22,041, it is an all-time high since August 14, and 822 people have died over the past day, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a bulletin on Saturday.

"Russia has recorded 22,041 new confirmed coronavirus cases in 85 regions over the past 24 hours, including 1,924 cases (8.7%) identified proactively, without any clinical symptoms," the bulletin said.

Russia has been recording a spike in daily COVID-19 cases for the second week now; a serious upsurge was noted on September 23. The numbers recorded on Saturday show growth again in comparison with Friday’s ones. The difference was 662 cases, as 21,379 cases were recorded on September 24. Epidemiologists explain it by seasonal factors in the first place.

Similar numbers crossing the threshold of 22,000 cases were recorded on August 14, but at the time Russia was witnessing a decrease in number of daily cases following the spike in July caused by the spread of the Delta variant.

Moscow has recorded 3,211 new COVID-19 cases after 2,893 cases were recorded on Friday. St. Petersburg has recorded 1,907 cases (1,874 on Friday) and the Moscow region 1,106 (1,008 on September 24).

As many as 822 people have died from COVID-19 over the past day; it is four cases less than the latest all-time high of deaths, 826, recorded on Friday. Moscow saw the highest number of deaths, 63, an all-time since August 8, St. Petersburg recorded 50 and the Sverdlovsk region 40.

The cumulative number of new coronavirus cases recorded in Russia has reached 7,398,415 in the past day. Over the entire period of the pandemic, 203,095 people have died in Russia. As many as 6,590,933 patients have been discharged from hospitals, including 16,325 over the past day. Out of them, 1,245 patients were discharged from hospitals in Moscow.

Russia’s consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Saturday that Russia has conducted over 189.3 million COVID-19 tests in total, including 527,000 over the past 24 hours. As many as 1,255,680 people remain under medical supervision in Russia.
