Russia may double forces near Ukraine as in spring – Nuland

WASHINGTON. Dec 8 (Interfax) – Russia is capable, if it wants, of pulling twice as many forces to Ukraine as it did last spring, U.S. Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland said on Tuesday.

Nuland said in her statement to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee that if Russia fully mobilizes the forces that are planned to be used for this, then the military grouping would be twice as large as last spring. In particular, it is about 100 battalion tactical groups, in other words, about half of the Russian ground forces based west of the Urals.

Nuland added that according to the USA, Russia had deployed almost 100,000 troops near the northern, eastern and southern borders of Ukraine.

These forces, according to the Undersecretary of State, continue to prepare for decisive action in Ukraine, if they receive an order. This is potentially possible in early 2022.
