Russia has nothing to do with growing gas prices in Europe – Peskov

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) – Russia has nothing to do with the growing gas prices in Europe, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Journalists asked Peskov about the European gas market situation and the reason for soaring gas prices and wondered whether "Russia and its gas market partners have played a part in that."

"First and foremost: we don’t just think, we insist that Russia does not and cannot have any role in what is going on in the European gas market," Peskov said.

Gazprom is close to record gas supply to Europe, and the supply in excess of the planned amounts has been fully provided, Peskov said.

Journalists asked Peskov about Gazprom’s reaction to the complex situation in gas supply to Europe. "Gazprom stays in touch with its European partners. Gazprom is very close to record gas supply to Europe this year. Gazprom provides the supply in excess of the planned amounts within the framework of current contracts," Peskov said.

As to whether European partners have asked for assistance in stabilizing the European gas situation and whether Russia is ready to meet them halfway, in particular, to increase the supply, Peskov said, "As for talks on the future period, I suggest that you ask the corporation."
