Russia, China sign contract to design heavy helicopter – Russian Helicopters head
MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) – A contract for designing a Russian-Chinese heavy civilian helicopter was signed in June 2021, Andrei Boginsky, general director of Rostec’s Russian Helicopters holding, said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"A discussion of this project with our Chinese comrades began in 2008. An intergovernmental agreement was signed during our visit to Beijing in 2016. Intensive negotiations have been going on since 2008, and we signed a contract on June 25 of this year," Boginsky said.
"We will be designing some of the components: the transmission, tail rotor, and anti-icing system, in addition to pumping up the helicopter’s resource," Boginsky said. "This is a rather large project to be implemented within about 13 years. Work will be done, so clearly, for us and especially for young people, this is a serious project that we will be working on for a long time and on which we will have a chance to acquire additional skills and competences," he said.
Designing a heavy helicopter together with the Chinese company Avicopter has been discussed for a number of years. The helicopter will have a takeoff mass of 38.2 tonnes, a flight range of 630 kilometers, and a speed of 300 kilometers per hour. According to the intergovernmental agreement, the helicopter will be serially produced in China.
