Ruling party to carry out personnel changes to combat illegal tobacco production – MP Hetmantsev
KYIV. Nov 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The ruling party does not intend to tolerate the shortcomings of law enforcement agencies in the field of illegal production and trade in tobacco products and will continue personnel changes in departments to resolve this issue.
This opinion was expressed by Head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy Danylo Hetmantsev (the Servant of the People parliamentary faction) at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"I will not, and the ruling party will not tolerate in the future the shortcomings of law enforcement agencies, which are egregious. In the future, we will make rather harsh personnel decisions that will lead to the solution of this shameful phenomenon [illegal production and trade in tobacco products], and not explain on air what we have done and how many criminal cases we have opened and how much tobacco we seized, how it is do law enforcement," the head of the committee said.
At the same time, he said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs over the past few months has been demonstrating the first results in the fight against illegal production and sale of tobacco products.
"I am grateful to the Minister of Internal Affairs [Denys Monastyrsky], who took up this issue. He has been dealing with it for only a few months, but we are already seeing the first results of the fight against illegal tobacco production," the MP said.
However, according to him, there are enterprises in the country that openly produce illegal tobacco products, as well as an extensive network for its retail sale, which is not noticed by representatives of law enforcement agencies, exists.
"This is actually an illegal business, which is conducted openly. A large factory in Zhovti Vody works, produces illegal tobacco, people work there, receive wages. The factory is connected to water, electricity, produces consignments… large, which are supplied by trucks across Ukraine and abroad," Hetmantsev said.
According to the unified register of legal entities and sole proprietors, the United Tobacco factory (United Tobacco LLC) is registered in Zhovti Vody, Dnipropetrovsk region.
