KYIV. Jan 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Restoring peace in Ukraine without losing its territories is possible only through the joint efforts of all free states, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday, talking to students of German universities.
Addressing them, the head of state spoke about the tragedy in Dnipro, where 45 people had already died as a result of Russian shelling of a residential building.
"Ukrainian cities and villages experience such blows every day. Kherson, Donbas, border communities that are not lucky to be near Russia. We want to interrupt these everyday wars and restore peace. This can be done only by winning the war. There is no other way. It is impossible with terror coexist," Zelensky said.
He said Germany is becoming one of the leaders in helping Ukraine resist Russian aggression: "And we really appreciate it – both in protecting our skies from Russian missiles, and in protecting social stability for our people."
"We also appreciate that German policy is being freed from Russian optics in relation to Ukraine and other neighboring countries of Russia. But the page of European history on which Russian belief in Europe’s weakness is based has not yet been turned. There is still a feeling in Moscow that it is possible threats or bribery to persuade the EU states to the decisions that Russia is waiting for," he said, expressing confidence that "this page will be turned forever when Ukraine is able to liberate its cities and villages with the help of German Leopard, Marder, Gepard."
Zelensky said: "In order to maintain leadership, one must always recognize reality."
"Ukrainian reality now is what we can win in this war. We can restore peace throughout our territory without leaving any pieces of land to the Kremlin for yet another experiment on people and history. But for this we all need to be together Ukraine, Germany and the entire free world. I believe we will," the president said.
