Reducing electricity consumption by 20% to help stabilize power system after Russian shelling – Energy Minister

KYIV. Oct 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A voluntary reduction in electricity consumption by at least 20% will help stabilize the operation of the Ukrainian power system after massive Russian shelling, the press service of the Energy Ministry said, citing Minister Herman Haluschenko, on the air of the national telethon on Thursday.

"In the first days of massive Russian missile attacks, a voluntary reduction in consumption averaged 10%. At the same time, enemy attacks continue, and the power system requires more unloading," Haluschenko said.

As he noted, a reduction of electricity consumption during the daytime and especially during peak hours will help stabilize the operation of the power system, in particular. At the same time, consumers throughout Ukraine, regardless of the region, should save electricity.

"The Russians are trying to destroy the power system of the entire state, regardless of where the energy infrastructure facilities are located: in the West, East, North or South. Today we are the only organism that is fighting the invasion that is coming to our energy," the minister stressed.

A voluntary reduction in consumption will avoid forced shutdowns, which can also be used to reduce the load on the power grid and provide power engineers with the opportunity to repair equipment damaged by terrorist attacks, he said.
