Rada's Humanitarian Committee does not support Tkachenko's intention to resign – Poturayev

KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy does not support Oleksandr Tkachenko’s intentions to resign as Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Head of the committee Mykyta Poturayev (from the Servant of the People faction) has said.

"Our committee does not support this statement [Tkachenko’s resignation]. We had a conversation with Mr. Oleksandr and we hope that all the disagreements that have arisen will be resolved properly and the ministry will continue to work under the leadership of current Minister Tkachenko. I know all the members of our committee," he told reporters at parliament on Tuesday.

In turn, deputy head of the committee Yevhenia Kravchuk said this statement of the minister has not yet been officially registered in parliament, and therefore the committee has not yet received it for further consideration.

"Tomorrow [November 17] we have a committee meeting, but this issue is not on the agenda. Tomorrow we will hear candidates for the positions of members of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, and this is actually the only issue on the agenda," the parliamentarian said.

According to her, the members of the committee plan to meet with Tkachenko on Tuesday to "obtain clarity on the personnel issue" and discuss the prospects for the 2022 budget for the humanitarian sphere and creative industries.

Kravchuk said the Servant of the People faction also does not support the possible resignation of Tkachenko.

"I think that within the next few days this will be resolved [the issue of Tkachenko’s resignation]. I believe that Mr. Tkachenko corresponds to his position. Perhaps his decision was quite emotional, as he was abroad at a UNESCO heritage meeting. When emotions subsided, it was possible to rethink it," the parliamentarian said.

She called it premature to discuss potential candidates for the post of minister "until it is 100% decided that he [Tkachenko] is leaving of his own accord."

At the same time, answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine journalist, Kravchuk said that most members of the Servant of the People faction do not support Tkachenko’s intention to resign.

"I did not communicate with all my colleagues, but based on the conversations I had at the congress, at the meeting of the faction [November 15], the overwhelming majority also do not support this resignation," she said.
