Rada proposes calling on UN, European countries to recognize Russia's actions at ZNPP as act of nuclear terrorism, impose sanctions against Russia' entire nuclear industry

KYIV. Aug 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A group of MPs invites the Verkhovna Rada to appeal to the United Nations, the European Union, the European Council, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the parliaments and governments of the member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency with a call to condemn the nuclear terrorism of the Russian Federation at Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP).

Draft resolution No. 7667 was registered in the Verkhovna Rada, the website of the parliament reported.

"The Verkhovna Rada calls on the parliaments and governments of the member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency to recognize the actions of the Russian Federation in the occupation of the ZNPP, its mining and shelling, threatening the safe existence of the world, as an act of nuclear terrorism," the MPs said in the draft appeal.

The MPs also propose to the parliament to call on the UN, European institutions, the IAEA to apply sanctions against the entire Russian nuclear industry, in particular against the state corporation Rosatom, enterprises and organizations that are part of Rosatom and their subsidiaries located both on the territory of the Russian Federation, and outside it, as well as in relation to Russian individuals who are the leaders of this corporation and its subsidiaries.

In addition, according to the text of the draft document, the Verkhovna Rada calls on the parliaments and governments of the IAEA member states to apply to the IAEA General Conference with a proposal to suspend the privileges and rights of the Russian Federation as a member of the Agency, as well as to deprive Russia of the right to vote at meetings of the IAEA Board of Governors and the opportunity to take part in technical cooperation programs, scientific and technical exchanges and international research projects under the auspices of the Agency.

The parliamentarians also propose to call on the UN, the IAEA to support and take the necessary measures to organize and send a joint mission of the UN and the IAEA to Zaporizhia NPP, followed by the demilitarization of the plant and the withdrawal of armed Russian military personnel and equipment from the plant and all adjacent territory, including the city of Enerhodar.
