Rada lacks 300 votes to adopt amendments to Constitution in terms of decentralization – MP Bezhin
KYIV. Oct 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada will not get 300 votes necessary for the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in terms of decentralization, head of the subcommittee on the administrative-territorial structure and local self-government of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the organization of state power, local government, regional development and urban planning Vitaliy Bezhin (Servant of the People faction) has said.
"I am often asked why the president does not introduce draft amendments to the Constitution [in terms of decentralization], what is he waiting for? Everything is very simple. There is no point in submitting amendments to the Constitution to the session hall until you are not sure that you will have 300 votes," he said at the conference "On the road to Lugano: Decentralization" in Kyiv on Friday.
According to him, at the moment there are 226-250 votes in the Rada to submit amendments to the Constitution in terms of decentralization to the Constitutional Court and vote at the first reading.
"But what is the point of doing this if there is no certainty that there will be 300 votes. As of now, I believe that at best there are 270 votes, this is objectively too little," he added.
As reported, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk expects that the bill on amendments to the Constitution in terms of decentralization will be registered in parliament by the Day of Local Self-Government, which is annually celebrated in Ukraine on December 7.
