Rada harmonizes food packaging requirements with European legislation – MP
KYIV. Nov 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada adopted in general bill No. 4568, which defines the requirements for the packaging of food products and materials in contact with them, in order to strengthen the protection of the health and interests of consumers, as well as to implement a number of directives in force in the European Union into the country’s legislation.
The document was supported by 306 MPs with the required 226 votes, MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak (the Holos faction) said on his Telegram channel on Thursday.
It is clarified that the adopted bill establishes requirements for packaging labeling, defines the powers of state bodies in the field of its production, circulation and use, and also introduces requirements for the processing of plastic materials.
According to an explanatory note to the document, it regulates the safety requirements for traditional packaging materials (paper, cardboard, foil, film, glass, wood, textiles, plastic, etc.); crockery and kitchen utensils; materials from which they are made (ceramics, metal, glass, etc.); materials contained in the packaging (paints, adhesives, varnishes, silicones, waxes, resins, etc.).
In turn, for violation of the requirements for the production, handling and use of materials and items in contact with food, it is proposed to introduce a fine for legal entities in the amount of 15 minimum wages, and for individual entrepreneurs – 10 minimum wages.
As reported, the agrarian committee of the Verkhovna Rada supported bill No. 4568 in March 2021, and in June of the same year, the parliament adopted it at first reading.
