Rada calls on international community to assess elections to State Duma, facts of illegal voting – statement

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada calls on the international community to evaluate the elections of deputies to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which were held on September 17-19 in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

The corresponding draft resolution No. 6078 On the Statement of the Verkhovna Rada on the illegitimacy of the elections of deputies to the State Duma of the Russian Federation 2021 was supported by 322 MPs.

The statement draws attention of the international community to the fact of holding illegitimate elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on September 17-19, 2021 in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

The statement notes violations of international humanitarian law by the occupying state, in particular the involvement of Ukrainian citizens with illegally issued passports of the Russian Federation, the movement of the occupying population in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and the uncontrolled process of crossing the internationally recognized state border.

In a statement, the Verkhovna Rada declared such elections illegal, the State Duma of the Russian Federation illegitimate, and called on the international community to assess the rigged elections and the facts of illegal voting.
