Rada adopts at first reading draft law on provision of medicines to seriously ill patients
KYIV. Nov 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada adopted as a basis the draft law On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on the Regulation of the Issue of Providing Medicines to Patients Out of Compassion (No. 5736).
The corresponding initiative was supported by 293 MPs with the required 226 votes at a meeting on Wednesday.
According to the explanatory note to the document, the purpose of the bill is to create conditions in Ukraine for access of critically ill patients to innovative treatment and the implementation of compassionate drug delivery programs (free of charge) through the settlement of legal relations in this area.
The bill introduces a clear and transparent mechanism that will allow critically ill patients to gain access to innovative medicines that are not yet widely available on Ukrainian market.
In addition, the document will provide an opportunity to treat seriously ill patients in Ukraine with innovative drugs at no cost.
