Rada actively working on European integration bills – Stefanchuk

KYIV. Aug 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada is actively working on its part of European integration tasks so that negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union will begin by the end of the year, Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

"The creation of subcommittees in each committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is at the final stage, which will deal exclusively with issues of European integration. The procedure for registration of all European integration acts has been changed. Such documents contain a table of compliance with EU directives. Members of the Supreme Council of Justice have been appointed according to the quota of the Parliament. This was among the demands," Stefanchuk said at a meeting with head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas on Thursday.

According to the website of the Verkhovna Rada, the speaker also noted that a bill on the reform of the Constitutional Court on the introduction of competitive selection of judges of the Constitutional Court will be submitted to the Parliament in the near future.

In addition, Stefanchuk said that in the near future the Verkhovna Rada plans to consider draft laws on the development of financial measures to combat money laundering (FATF), on media. According to the speaker of the Parliament, work on the draft law on national communities is at the final stage.

Stefanchuk also reported on the gradual reform of the institute of legislation under the Parliament.

"We have created a classical research service that will analyze legislative acts for their compliance with European legislation. It is very important for us to ensure the intellectual ability of the parliament to create high-quality laws. And we already have agreements with many speakers of the EU parliaments on cooperation between their committees and our research services," Stefanchuk said.
