Quarantine introduced in Molochansk, Zaporizhia region, due to outbreak of African swine fever

KYIV. Aug 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – An outbreak of African swine fever has been recorded in Polohivsky district of Zaporizhia region. In the city of Molochansk, epicenter of the infection, the quarantine has been announced.

According to the General Directorate of the State Food and Consumer Service in Zaporizhia region, swine disease with African swine fever (ASF) was detected in the city of Molochansk in one of the subsidiary farms, where there were ten pigs.

The State Consumer Service reported that African fever is an acute viral infection of pigs, against which there is no vaccine and treatment. All pigs are killed in the contaminated areas.

Quarantine has been declared in Molochansk, quarantine posts have been established, and local farmsteads and transport are being disinfected. Sanitary services conduct a house-to-house visit, including for explanatory work with the local population.

Specialists of the State Food Service and Veterinary Medicine of the region are taking measures to eliminate the viral focus and prevent the spread of ASF across the territory of the Zaporizhia region.
