Public procurement accounts for 30% of Ukrainian pharma market, state's share to grow – forecast

KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In the first half of 2022, public procurement accounted for 30% of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market in value terms, about 5% of the retail market is covered by the reimbursement program, the state’s share will grow, SMD experts predict.

"The state will be one of the main stakeholders influencing the market," experts say in their report "Ukraine’s pharmaceutical market in the first half 2022. The market in the flames of war."

Experts expect the development of their own distribution by national pharmaceutical manufacturers and the largest pharmacy chains.

In addition, the company predicts the appearance of a state distributor for public procurement.

"There is a need for a state distributor for public procurement. Consolidation of distributors which specialize in public procurement will also continue," the company said in a report.

In addition, the company’s experts expect further consolidation of the pharmacy market, a further increase in the share of top chains and a reduction in the number of individual pharmacies and small chains.

At the same time, according to the company’s experts, in the medium term, the number of pharmacy sales points should decrease to the average level in the EU countries.

As reported with reference to a report by SMD, the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market in the first half of 2022 fell by 27% in volume and 20% in value compared to the same period last year due to the war.
