NUR-SULTAN. Jan 6 (Interfax) – Social media have published pictures showing a ruined monument to former Kazakhstani president Nursultan Nazarbayev in Taldykorgan.

The images appeared on several Telegram channels covering the protests in Kazakhstan.

It was reported that protestors had attempted to remove the monument, which was erected in 2016. Social media circulated footage showing protestors chanting the national anthem and pulling ropes around the statue in an attempt to remove it from the pedestal.
