Prosecutor's Office of Crimea opens case due to searches, illegal detention of Mejlis member by Russian law enforcers
KYIV. Sept 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has opened criminal proceedings in connection with the searches and illegal detention of First Deputy Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelyalov by the Russian law enforcement agencies.
"Tonight, in the Simferopol region of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, "law enforcers" of the occupying state conducted a search in the house of the first deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, after which he was taken in an unknown direction. Earlier, the "law enforcers" searched houses of two more Crimean Tatars. The whereabouts of three detainees has remained unknown," the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea reported on Facebook.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea qualifies such actions of the occupiers under Part 2 of Article 162 (violation of the inviolability of the home) and Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal imprisonment). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years.
