Prosecutor General: We have no intention to soften our position on preventive measure for Poroshenko

KYIV. Jan 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) does not intend to soften its position on the election of a preventive measure to the fifth president of Ukraine (2014-19), leader of the European Solidarity party, MP Petro Poroshenko, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said.

At a meeting with journalists on Wednesday in Kyiv, answering a question from the Interfax-Ukraine agency about whether the PGO has the intention to change its position on a preventive measure for Poroshenko to reduce the degree of tension of society, Venediktova said: “The Prosecutor General’s Office has no such intention. The PGO filed an appeal, and yesterday, when the full decision appeared, there was an addendum to the appeal, and I have already signed it.”

At the same time, the Prosecutor General added: “I understand that there are issues of electoral likes and dislikes, I understand that civil society has questions of expediency, inexpediency, but we are trying to remain exclusively in the professional procedural plane – we have absolutely the same attitude to all the defendants in the case.”

At the same time, she assured: “We respect the status of the fifth president, of a deputy, but we proceed from the fact that parliamentary immunity has been lifted.”
