Prosecutor General Kostin: 91 Russian soldiers involved in crimes in Bucha been identified so far
KYIV. Feb 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During the occupation, the Russian army committed more than 9,000 war crimes in Bucha district of Kyiv region, more than 1,700 civilians died, of which about 700 were in Bucha.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor’s General Office of Ukraine, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin told Congressmen Michael McCaul, Darrell Issa, Keith Self, Jake Ellzey and Max Miller about this during a visit to the city.
It is reported that they visited the sites of mass crimes and met with those who survived the occupation.
“After liberation, we discovered mass graves with the mutilated bodies of men, women, children. Torture, murder, sexual violence. This is the true face of the ‘Russian world’ and the Russian regime, which is based on complete disregard for the principles of human rights and humanitarian law,” Kostin said.
He said some 91 Russian military personnel involved in these crimes have now been identified. Work continues to bring to justice all those involved.
The prosecutor general also thanked the congressmen for the U.S. position regarding support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.
“We are counting on support in the creation of an International Tribunal to hold Russia’s leadership to account. Justice for the victims of war is justice for the world,” the prosecutor general said.
