Program of treatment of Ukrainians abroad frees up resources for provision of war-related medical care – Liashko

KYIV. Aug 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The program for treatment of Ukrainians abroad frees up the resources of Ukraine’s healthcare system to provide war-related medical care, Health Minister Viktor Liashko believes.

"I would like to emphasize that we are sending people abroad for treatment not because Ukraine cannot provide treatment or we do not have enough specialists. The issue is that we are at war with the Russian Federation, which violates all the principles of warfare, destroys hospitals and the economy. Therefore, sending patients for treatment abroad is a potential readiness of our healthcare system to have free beds, necessary equipment and supplies in order to provide medical care to those who suffer from the horrors of war," he said on the air of the telethon on Friday.

He said that about 1,400 Ukrainians, including 500 children, had already been sent to foreign clinics as part of a program of treatment abroad.

Liashko stressed that treatment under this program is funded by the EU and is free of charge for patients.

Clinics from 18 European countries are currently participating in the program. Germany, Spain and Poland received the most patients under this program.
