Privatization of Energoatom will destroy energy independence of Ukraine – Yulia Tymoshenko
KYIV. Sept 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – MPs from the Batkivschyna party will insist on the withdrawal from consideration of bill No. 7650-U, which provides for the privatization of Energoatom in the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the press service of the Batkivschyna, the corresponding statement was made by the leader of the political force, MP Yulia Tymoshenko, in her What’s in the Rada? video blog.
According to her, this is due to the fact that the adoption of this bill will jeopardize the energy independence and sovereignty of Ukraine.
"We are third in Europe in terms of electricity generation at nuclear power plants. Third! Do you understand the scale? We have 50% of the electricity produced by nuclear power plants. This is not just our national treasure. This is something that, if the country properly manages, can give our entrepreneurs a huge privilege and to make our producers and industry competitive, and people solvent," Tymoshenko stressed.
She explained that Energoatom is now selling nuclear power for 57 kopecks per kilowatt, while "the price for people is UAH 1.68 per kilowatt, and for industry – UAH 5-6 per kilowatt." The difference, she said, goes to middlemen.
According to Tymoshenko, if this bill is adopted, nuclear power will not be sold within Ukraine, but will be exported.
"There will be much higher incomes, hundreds of billions of hryvnias will end up in the pockets of intermediaries," the MP noted.
She promised that during the conciliation council, her team would demand that bill No. 7650-U be withdrawn from consideration.
