KYIV. Sept 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – First lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, during her visit to New York on the occasion of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, has met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, first lady of France Brigitte Macron and Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund Natalia Kanem, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The first lady thanked Guterres for his personal efforts and the efforts of the leadership of the Secretariat of the UN, as well as the whole democratic world that supports and helps the Ukrainian people today.

Zelenska noted the need to protect children affected by Russia’s war of aggression.

"Your decision to include the situation in Ukraine in this year’s report on children in armed conflicts is of fundamental importance to us, as this will ensure proper monitoring by the UN system of crimes against children committed daily by the Russian occupiers in our country," she said.

She also called on the UN Secretary General to help with the release of Ukrainian women and doctors, who are not considered combatants, according to the Geneva Conventions, from Russian captivity, adding that among them there are pregnant women and mothers of very young children.

The president’s wife also met with UK Prime Minister Liz Truss and thanked for her uncompromising support. Discussing the situation in Ukraine with Truss, the first lady, along with Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kyslytsia, spoke about the terrible aftermath of the Russian occupation.

"We are already thinking about recovery, so we urge you to join the Fast Recovery Plan and help restore Ukraine," she said.

Zelenska also discussed with the UK Prime Minister the restoration of Ukraine. The UK is ready to help in the restoration of Kyiv region.

During a meeting with the first lady of France, Brigitte Macron, at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York, Zelenska spoke about the adaptation of Ukrainian children temporarily displaced to France.

"You cannot imagine how quickly they adapt, how quickly they learn French!" Macron said.

Zelenska asked Macron for the introduction of a flexible school schedule for Ukrainian children in France.

She also held a meeting with Executive Director of the UN Population Fund Natalia Kanem, during which humanitarian projects to help Ukrainians were discussed.
