President of European Council pledges support for Moldova in pursuing reform program
CHISINAU. Sept 27 (Interfax) – President of the European Council Charles Michel has assured Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita that the EU is open to supporting Chisinau in pursuing an ambitious program of reforms, the Moldovan government press service said.
Michel met Gavrilita in Brussels on Monday.
Gavrilita informed Michel of Moldova’s justice system reform, efforts to fight corruption, and a package of economic and social support measures essential for its economic growth to resume. Gavrilita said she was confident that her visit would provide an impetus for the development of relations between Moldova and the EU.
Michel described Moldova as an important EU partner, the government said.
This trip to Brussels is Gavrilita’s first visit abroad as prime minister of Moldova, during which she plans to meet with the EU foreign policy chief and the European commissioners for economy, justice, neighborhood and enlargement, transport, and energy.
