KYIV. Aug 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On the Day of Remembrance of Defenders who died in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with members of the families of fallen soldiers.
The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak and government representatives, the presidential press service reported.
"On this tragic day, we meet with the families of the fallen defenders. I express great respect and gratitude to you, all relatives and friends of those who gave their lives for Ukraine," the Head of State said.
Zelensky stressed the extremely great contribution of fallen soldiers to preserving the independence of our state, and also said that such meetings should be held annually to understand what problems the families of the fallen defenders of Ukraine have and how the state should solve them.
In particular, the social, pension and medical support of military families was discussed during the meeting today, the Office said.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the issue of legislative consolidation of the status of defenders of Ukraine. In particular, they touched upon the issue of social guarantees, which need to be defined in a separate law.
